In 2021, our family’s world changed when Cooper was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes just before his fifth birthday. What started as a fun Thanksgiving filled with Jarritos and holiday treats quickly turned into a trip to the pediatrician. Then straight to the emergency room. Cooper wasn’t in DKA, but the experience of IVs, hospital staff, and uncertainty was traumatic and unforgettable.
The months that followed were full of learning and adjusting. We figured out how to give insulin, do countless finger pokes, celebrate the first CGM and insulin pump, and slowly add “normal life” back into our routines.
Since then, we’ve traveled across the country, camped in countless places, switched pumps and CGMs, navigated insurance changes, and supported each other through the emotional ups and downs that come with a chronic illness. Type 1 diabetes doesn’t just affect one person. It affects the whole family.
Every year, we celebrate Cooper’s “diaversary.” It’s not just a date; it’s another year of keeping him safe, managing blood sugar checks, counting carbs, midnight juice boxes, and constant planning. It’s another year of strength.
Lazy P Clothing was born from Cooper’s custom cowboy hat with the “Lazy P” brand (a letter turned on its side). To us, it represents resilience, toughness, and the spirit of doing hard things day after day. We created Lazy P to celebrate that same grit and strength in everyone living with Type 1 diabetes and the families who stand beside them.
